The family drama starts from a harsh reality of Romania a few decades ago
In 2019, the documentary Shooting the Mafia was released, about Letizia Battaglia, a legend of world photography after documenting the crimes of the Sicilian mafia for decades. Asked why she persevered despite the fact that she and her family frequently received death threats, the photographer gave a haunting answer: "I wished no one could say they didn't know." The same intention seems to be behind Y, a film awarded with the award for Best Romanian Feature Film at TIFF 2026 and which can be seen from Friday in cinemas across the country.
